The Hague Initiative for International Law has issued a legal report documenting the unlawful assault on the Handala vessel, which was en route to the Gaza Strip on a humanitarian mission as part of the Freedom Flotilla

The report highlights serious violations of international law, including breaches of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Seaand the San Remo Manual on International Law Applicable to Armed Conflicts at Sea. It includes recommendations for an international investigation and the prosecution of those responsible

In its report, the Initiative affirmed that the incident constitutes a blatant violation of human rights and international law, calling on the international community to take concrete action to ensure freedom of navigation and the protection of humanitarian convoys
