US Sanctions on the International Criminal Court Are an Attack on the Independence of International Justice and an Attempt to Perpetuate Impunity in Palestine.
The Hague – October 10, 2026
The Hague Initiative for Law and Justice has condemned the sanctions imposed by the US administration on the International Criminal Court, which the Court rejected on October 9, 2026. The Initiative described them as a serious escalation targeting the independence of international justice and an attempt to perpetuate impunity in Palestine.
The Initiative warned that continuing these policies sets a dangerous precedent that undermines equality before the law and weakens trust in the international justice system, at the expense of victims’ right to access justice.
It called for the immediate revocation of US Executive Order 14203, urgent European action to activate the EU Blocking Statute, the creation of alternative financial mechanisms to protect the Court’s work, the suspension of the EU-Israel Association Agreement, and a coordinated international response to safeguard the Court’s independence.
